Gurugram has emerged as a trade and business centre in last ten‐fifteen years and has
witnessed rapid migration not only from immediate hinterland but also from all over India.
Today, Gurgaon is India's second largest information technology hub and third largest
financial and banking hub. The rapid growth of the city due to large scale urbanization and
economic activities has necessitated an efficient and reliable mass transport system to meet
the travel requirements of its residents in the city.
The existing MRTS system in Gurugram consists of DMRC yellow line of 7 kms with 5 stations
and interchanges with 11.70 kms with 11 stations of Rapid metro at Sikandarpur, yet serve
limited areas, as such to serve this rapidly growing city a new corridor has been approved by
Government of Haryana and Govt of India for implementation.

Legal coverage of the project shall be under The Metro Railways (Construction of
Works) Act, 1978, The Metro Railways (Operation & Maintenance) Act, 2002 as
amended through Metro Railways (Amendment) Act, 2009 and The Railways Act, 1989
as amended from time to time.
HMRTC and GoH along with HSVP/local bodies is likely to go for the development of facilities for pedestrians and cyclists in the catchment area of all the metro stations
in Gurugram. A modern ITS enabled cycle sharing facility would be set up and maintained in the catchment area of all the metro stations in the metro network to promote green and clean transport.
Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India is likely to take
necessary steps in regard to standardization and indigenization across all metro systems.
